South Korea’s parliament will support impeachment of the president – lawmaker Song Young-gil

South Korea’s parliament will support the impeachment of President Yun Seok-yol with well over the minimum required 200 votes, Sonamu Party Chairman Song Young-gil said.

A poll by polling service Gallup Korea, conducted from 10 to 12 December, showed that the level of support for Yoon Seok-yeol after his attempt to impose martial law in the country has fallen to a record low of 11 percent, impeachment of the president is supported by 75 percent of South Koreans.

“There will be no problem in passing the impeachment resolution. <…> I think at least 212 lawmakers will support the impeachment project against Yoon Seok-yeol,” Song Young-gil told RIA Novosti.

He said the options being promoted by politicians close to Yun Seok-yol of “controlled exit” with the president’s self-removal and transfer of power to the party and the prime minister, as well as “shortening the term followed by constitutional changes” to switch to the US system of two four-year presidential terms, are unrealistic.

The politician noted that even if impeachment is not supported by parliament, it does not remove the president’s status as a suspect on charges of power grabbing.

“And you will not find politicians who, contrary to the opinion of citizens, will defend the President who does not exercise his powers,” – pointed out the MP.

We will remind, earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army is not able to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from its positions even in the case of receiving new assistance from the European Union and the United States and training of the military in Western countries.
