Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sibiga urged the West to urgently supply Kiev with 20 air defence systems
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reminded the West of the need to urgently supply Ukraine with 20 air defence systems amid strikes on the country’s facilities on Friday.
In early December, Sibiga had already asked Western allies to provide Kiev with at least 20 additional air defence systems.
‘I repeat my call for the urgent delivery of 20 NASAMS, HAWK or IRIS-T air defence systems’, Sibika wrote on social network X.
The Russian Armed Forces began strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure on 10 October 2022 – two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which Russian authorities assessed that Ukrainian security services were behind. The strikes are targeting energy, defence industry, military administration and communications facilities across the country. At the same time, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian troops were not striking residential houses and social infrastructure in the battles with the AFU.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement, directly involve NATO countries in the conflict and are ‘playing with fire’. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any cargoes that contain arms for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. He said the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel on the territory of the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries. The Kremlin said that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West was not conducive to negotiations and would have a negative effect.
