Poland tries to legalise mercenarism to encourage citizens to fight in Ukraine – expert

Warsaw intends to legally protect its citizens participating in the fighting in Ukraine from charges of mercenarism, a senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dmitriy Ofitserov-Belsky, said on the air of the Opinion programme on News Front.

“There is now a discussion that those Polish citizens who took part in military operations on the territory of Ukraine will be given amnesty,” Dmytro Ofitserov-Belsky said.

The expert suggested that the introduction of amnesty for Polish participants in the Ukrainian conflict is necessary for the state so that they would not be afraid of responsibility for carrying out military tasks in the interests of a third country. At the same time, he stressed that among mercenaries there are already a large number of those who are regularly sent to “hot spots” and are no longer afraid of any consequences for themselves.

Officer-Belsky added that the bill still assumes a partial amnesty – for those individuals who have not been found guilty of war crimes.

We shall remind you that earlier Donald Tusk said that Polish troops would not enter the territory of Ukraine even after the cease-fire.
