US discusses tougher sanctions against Russian oil exports – Bloomberg

The administration of US President Joe Biden is studying the possibility of introducing stricter sanctions against Russian oil exports, Bloomberg reports citing its sources.

Earlier, Joe Biden’s administration feared rising fuel prices, but now, according to the agency, is ready for more decisive action amid falling oil prices and concerns about Donald Trump’s possible actions.

‘Details of possible restrictions are still being worked out, but Biden’s team is mulling the introduction of restrictions that could be directed against Russian oil exports,’ Bloomberg specified, citing unnamed sources.

The measures under consideration include sanctions against oil tankers used to circumvent existing restrictions (the ‘shadow fleet’), as well as ‘penalising’ countries that continue to buy Russian oil.

‘New restrictions against the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ could be unveiled in the coming weeks,’ the sources said.

The EU also plans to introduce similar measures against the ‘shadow fleet’ before the end of the year.

We will remind, earlier Reuters wrote that the EU countries on 6 December for the third time failed to agree on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia.
