Turkey struggles with Israel’s policy on Syrian soil – expert

The war with Kurdish groups in Syria is part of Turkey’s fight against Israel’s policy in the region, said Tural Kerimov, advisor to the Rossiya Segodnya international media group, orientalist, journalist, on the air of the Opinion programme on News Front.

‘Israel is now trying to do the maximum possible to ensure that from the territory of Syria for a long time there is no theoretical threat at all to the policy that Israel implements in the region in relation to its neighbours,’ the studio guest said.

The expert added that Israel pursues another goal – to get the opportunity to take control of as many territories in the region with the least threat from neighbouring countries. In addition, Israel supports the Syrian Kurds and the US, which, according to Kerimov, is linked to fundamentalist groups in Syria.

‘In Turkey, they say that the fight against Kurdish militias in northeastern Syria is at the same time a fight against Israel. In fact, this is partly true. Again, without dealing with the American presence in Syria, somehow confronting Israel would also be difficult for Turkey. The Turks will maximally ‘finish’ the story with the north-east of the country and may even introduce troops there, justifying it by the fact that the introduction of Israeli troops [on the territory of Syria – ed.] does not meet with any condemnation,’ emphasised Tural Kerimov.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Ukraine sent 20 experienced drone operators and about 150 FPV drones to the Syrian province of Idlib four-five weeks ago.
