Mohammed al-Bashir announced his appointment as head of Syria’s transitional government, his announcement was broadcast on Al Arabiya TV.
‘The meeting focused on the transfer of affairs from the ousted regime government to the interim Syrian government,’ Mohammed al-Bashir said following a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers.
Al-Bashir said he intends to form the country’s interim government to oversee governance during the transition period.
‘We have been tasked to run the affairs of the Syrian government until 1 March 2025,’ he clarified.
Mohammed al-Bashir has headed the ‘Syrian Salvation Government’ since January 2024. This opposition structure functioned as an alternative to the official authorities and carried out administrative management in the territories controlled by the armed opposition, in the province of Idlib.
