US President-elect Donald Trump said in an interview with The New York Post after meeting with world leaders during a trip to Paris for the opening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris that Vladimir Zelenskyy wants to make peace.
‘He wants to make peace. This is something new. He wants a ceasefire. He wants to make peace. We haven’t discussed the details. He thinks it’s time and (Russian President Vladimir – ed.) Putin must think it’s time <…> It won’t end until there’s peace,’ Donald Trump said.
The US president-elect added that he is developing a concept of how to end the Ukrainian conflict.
Trump also noted that in his conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, he once again pointed to NATO’s obligation to ‘pay its fair share,’ referring to the United States’ disproportionate financial burden in the North Atlantic Alliance. According to him, the French leader agreed with him.
We shall remind you that earlier the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump’s team offered to freeze the conflict in Ukraine, create a demilitarised zone along the front line and new arms supplies in exchange for Kiev’s promise not to join NATO for at least 20 years.
