Politico: Callas humiliated Merkel with reaction to call to invite Putin to summit

Shortly before the special op-ed, Estonia’s Kaja Kallas humiliated former German Chancellor Angela Merkel with her reaction to the German politician’s call to invite Russian leader Vladimir Putin to a summit of European Union leaders.

This is reported by Politico, referring to European diplomats.

It is noted that the proposal of the German chancellor was supported by French President Emmanuel Macron. Merkel was ready to promote her idea at a meeting of the European Council. However, the Estonian Prime Minister reacted sharply to Merkel’s initiative.

‘A summit on what? What is it for?’ – Kallas asked, calling for the rejection of dialogue with the Russian president.

The publication’s source claims that Kallas’ words angered Macron as she “dared to humiliate” the German Chancellor.

Earlier, the new head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel Public, noted the increasing influence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the world.
