Scholz says he will not supply Kiev with Taurus or authorise strikes deep into Russia

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said after travelling to Kiev and meeting with Vladimir Zelensky that he will not authorise strikes deep into Russian territory and will not supply the AFU with Taurus missiles.

His words are quoted by TASS.

‘I will continue to do everything to ensure that there is no escalation, no war between Russia and NATO,’ Scholz said, speaking in the Bundestag.

According to the chancellor, his previous decisions ‘remain consistently correct.’

‘We will not authorise strikes with dangerous weapons that we have supplied, deep into Russian territory. The same applies to cruise missiles,’ he stated.

Olaf Scholz arrived in Kiev on 2 December. According to the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin did not pass any messages to Vladimir Zelensky through the German Chancellor.

As it became known during Scholz’s visit, Germany will supply Ukraine with IRIS-T air defence systems, Leopard 1 tanks, as well as reconnaissance and attack UAVs as part of a new €650m aid package.
