German chancellor candidate Merz rejected accusations of an ultimatum to Putin

Friedrich Merz, a candidate for German chancellor from the opposition Christian Democratic Union, has denied accusations that he threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin with an ultimatum.

‘I in no way gave Putin an ultimatum. I offered to lift weapons range restrictions for Ukraine and allow TAURUS deliveries – all on Ukrainian terms,’ Friedrich Merz said.

According to Merz, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his Social Democratic Party distorted his words.

We shall remind you that earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged not to play ‘Russian roulette’ with security through ultimatums of the Russian Federation.
