The USA believes that the most important moment that will determine the outcome of the Ukrainian conflict will be the number of mobilised military personnel of Ukraine and Russia, the Washington Post has reported citing sources.
The Washington Post quoted unnamed US officials as saying that in the long term, the most important point defining the Ukrainian conflict will be the gap in the number of military personnel mobilized by Kiev and Russia. The publication pointed out that the Ukrainian armed forces are facing understaffed brigades on the front line, as well as “slow mobilisation.”
The newspaper also pointed to the advance of Russian forces towards the town of Krasnoarmeysk. An unnamed senior US defence official told the Washington Post that the area south of the town was not well defended after Ukrainian units returned to more defensive actions. The piece specifies that Kiev recognises the difficulties faced by the Ukrainian armed forces.
“There is a difficult situation on the front line in Donetsk, maybe even one of the most difficult in the last period of the conflict. But it is not hopeless,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed Ukrainian official as saying.
We shall remind you that earlier, Verkhovna Rada MP Roman Kostenko said that Ukraine had a tendency to reduce the rate of mobilisation to the country’s armed forces. He called this situation a “big problem” and stressed that the Kiev authorities would not be able to “catch up”.
