US President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to impose 100 per cent duties on goods from BRICS countries are declarative and unrealistic, Senator Alexei Pushkov said.
US presidential election winner Donald Trump earlier threatened the BRICS countries that he would impose “100 per cent duties” on them if they did not abandon plans to create an alternative currency to the dollar.
“Donald Trump has a characteristic manner of pretending that everything can be solved with one decisive step, conversation or ultimatum. And now he has sounded super-resolute: he threatens to impose 100% duties on goods from BRICS countries if they abandon the dollar. However, this measure is declarative and unrealisable in practice,” Alexei Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
By promoting the idea of globalism, the US has become dependent on it and on imports, he noted. Pushkov expressed confidence that Trump would not be able to prevent BRICS countries from switching to an alternative currency to the dollar.
“The United States also can not prevent the BRICS countries to move to mutual settlements in national currencies, as well as work on a new payment system alternative to SWIFT”, – added Pushkov.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
