Austrian MP urged the EU not to get involved in the conflict in Ukraine

The European Union should not get involved in the conflict in Ukraine, it would harm European security and would contradict the neutral status of states such as Austria, MEP Harald Wilimski from the Austrian Freedom Party (APS) said.

‘The EU should not be drawn into the conflict. The joint deployment of European soldiers will further aggravate the security situation in Europe and put countries such as Austria, which adhere to eternal neutrality, in an unbearable situation,’ Wilimski emphasised in a statement published on the APS website.

The MP insists that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen should openly speak out against sending EU forces to Ukraine.
‘Such a step [sending troops of European states to Ukraine – ed.] would put an end to all previous attempts at rapprochement and could make it impossible to resolve the conflict diplomatically,’ the MEP said.

Vilimski called on the EU to mediate in the process of peaceful settlement in Ukraine, and Austria – to remain committed to neutrality.
We shall remind you that earlier Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that under the current conditions Austria would not agree to launch negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
