Japan intends to conclude a peace treaty with Russia – Ishiba

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said that his government remains on course to ‘solve the territorial problem and conclude a peace treaty’ with Russia. The head of the government said this while delivering a keynote speech before the parliament.

‘Japanese-Russian relations are in a difficult state, but our country will continue the course to solve the territorial problem and conclude a peace treaty’, – said Shigeru Ishiba.

The Japanese prime minister repeated an earlier statement made in October when he addressed parliament.

Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, noted that the issue of the peace treaty is a complex topic for Russian-Japanese relations, adding that earlier Moscow and Tokyo found opportunities for productive dialogue.

We will remind, earlier the Japanese Kyodo, citing sources with information on Japan-US relations, reported that the US military will establish temporary bases along the south-western chain of Japan’s Nansei Islands and in the Philippines to deploy missile units there.
