The European Parliament does not recognise the results of the parliamentary election in Georgia and calls for a new vote in the republic, according to a press release on the EP website.
The relevant resolution was adopted by a majority of votes.
“The European Parliament rejects any recognition of the parliamentary elections … and calls for their re-run within a year,” the document reads.
As the European Parliament noted, the repeat elections in Georgia should be held under close international observation and with independent election commissions.
EP deputies also supported the EU plan to send a technical mission to Tbilisi to analyse the situation.
Earlier, the European Parliament expressed concern about violations at the parliamentary elections and “regression of democracy” in Georgia.
The ruling Georgian Dream party won the 26 October parliamentary elections with 53.93% of the vote and won 89 seats out of 150.
