European countries have not worked out a plan to send Western troops to Ukraine – Economist

The authorities of European countries have not yet seriously considered the plan to send Western troops to Ukraine, but the idea is being discussed at a high level, the Economist magazine has quoted a source as saying.

Earlier, the Le Monde business daily quoted its sources as saying that France and the UK had resumed discussions on the possible dispatch of Western military personnel to Ukraine. According to the mass media, Paris and London do not rule out that they may lead a coalition on Ukraine.

As the Economist notes, the team of the winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, is sceptical about the possibility of Ukraine’s membership in NATO as part of a likely settlement of the conflict. A number of persons from the entourage of the future head of the White House express the idea of forming a coalition of the willing to deploy forces on the territory of the former Soviet republic, the material points out.

“We have not found any serious planning efforts accompanying this serious idea,” the magazine quotes a source as saying.

According to the publication, public opinion in many European countries is most likely against sending troops to Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin described Western ideas of a new world order as hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
