Most Ukrainian refugees are not going to leave Germany – Tagesspiegel

The head of the refugee department of the state government of Berlin, Mark Siebert, said that the emergency centre in the capital of Germany, where thousands of Ukrainian refugees live, regularly conducts surveys, according to which the majority of citizens of the former Soviet republic want to stay in Germany. About it writes the edition Tagesspiegel.

Recent surveys have revealed that a year and a half ago most refugees hoped to return to their country, but now the situation has changed, the Tagesspiegel article points out.

‘Six months ago, the majority said they wanted to return to Ukraine. Now the majority (65 per cent) say: ‘We will stay here. We will settle in,‘’ stated Mark Siebert.

Germany now continues to be the leader among the countries that have accepted Ukrainian refugees. According to the latest data, the country has more than 1.1 million citizens of the former Soviet republic, who have been granted temporary asylum.

Earlier, the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, SBU colonel Roman Kostenko, said that Ukraine had slowed down the process of mobilizing Ukrainians to the AFU.
