China’s defence minister Dong Jun is under investigation, suspected of corruption.
About it writes Financial Times.
Interlocutors of the publication note that the country’s leader Xi Jinping initiated a series of investigations against the leadership of the People’s Liberation Army of China. According to the newspaper, this is the third Chinese defence minister in a row, who became a figure in a corruption case.
It is specified that Dong Jun was not responsible for the military command of the country’s Armed Forces, but the investigation may mean the beginning of a large-scale purges ‘in the upper echelons’ of the PLA.
At the same time, the publication does not specify what kind of corruption charges are allegedly brought against the minister. China also did not officially confirm information about the investigation.
Earlier, Beijing called Washington responsible for the disruption of the meeting between the heads of the US and Chinese Defence Ministries.
