Newly elected US President Donald Trump is preparing an executive order to dismiss all transgender servicemen from the US army. This was reported by The Times newspaper with reference to sources in the defence department.
According to the newspaper, the decree could be signed as early as the first day of the presidency and will affect about 15,000 people. The firing would be for medical reasons.
“It will come at a time when almost all branches of the U.S. military are failing to meet recruitment targets,” the publication points out.
During his first presidential term, Trump has already issued an executive order banning transgender people from entering the service, but the active servicemen at that time were not affected, noted The Times.
