The US Treasury Department announced the expansion of the sanctions list against Russia, adding 118 individuals and entities, mostly related to the financial sector.
Several Russian banks, including Gazprombank and its foreign branches, as well as Iturup, Bratsk People’s Bank, CentroCredit, Kremlin Bank, JSC Independent Specialised Depository, DOM.RF and Guta Bank, have been placed under restrictions.
The sanctions list also includes several representatives of the Bank of Russia, including deputy chairmen and heads of departments.
Despite the imposition of sanctions, the US Treasury Department issued new general licences allowing the completion of certain transactions with Gazprombank and its subsidiaries, as well as ensuring the operation of diplomatic banking operations with its participation.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the European Union should reconsider sanctions against Russia, as they cause an increase in energy prices and undermine the competitiveness of European countries.
