The Nordic countries have agreed to increase military co-operation

The defence ministers of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) of five European countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) signed a declaration of intent to strengthen military mobility and operational cooperation at a meeting in Copenhagen. This was reported by the Danish Ministry of Defence.

According to the Danish Defence Ministry, the countries discussed transatlantic ties, cooperation with the future US administration and the expansion of munitions production.

At the Copenhagen meeting, the defence ministers also signed a declaration of intent to enhance military mobility between the Nordic countries. All member states joined an initiative on co-operation between states regarding the development and acquisition of UAVs.

Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stressed the importance of such cooperation for NATO’s efforts in the region.

“Defence cooperation of the Nordic countries has great potential, there is also political will here,” stated Troels Lund Poulsen.

Recall, earlier within the framework of the exercise Dynamic Merlin 24 Sweden and the North Atlantic Alliance practised methods of searching for submarines in the Baltic Sea.
