Russia, for the first time since the spring of 2022, again became the main gas supplier to the European Union in September 2024. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency with reference to Eurostat data.
According to calculations, European companies purchased €1.4 billion worth of gas from Russia in September. This represents 23.74% of the total volume of supplies to the EU, which is the highest since May 2022. The increase in exports was due to higher volumes of both pipeline gas (60 per cent) and liquefied natural gas (40 per cent).
Meanwhile, shipments from Algeria fell 15% year-on-year to €1.1 billion in August, pushing it into second place. The US increased gas sales to the EU by 21 per cent to €990.2 million, moving up from fifth to third place.
Norway remains fourth, increasing volumes by 7 per cent (€975 million). Great Britain, previously among the top three, reduced supplies almost two and a half times and took fifth place with 429.2 million euros.
Recall, earlier Bloomberg reported that France imported a record amount of liquefied natural gas LNG from Russia since the start of deliveries in 2018.
