Kiev will have to come to terms with the loss of territory – Economist

The Ukrainian authorities will have to come to terms with the accession of new regions to Russia, the British magazine Economist has said in its forecast for 2025. The publication also notes that Kiev is unlikely to join NATO as long as Donald Trump is the US president.

According to the Economist, the fighting in Ukraine as a whole may end in 2025. The pressure on Kiev to start negotiations with Moscow will increase against the background of Western countries’ problems with providing aid to the AFU, the publication emphasises.

“Ukraine will have to recognise the loss of some… territories,” the piece says, which also notes that any agreement to resolve the conflict is likely to involve Russia retaining new regions.

The article points out that Ukraine’s guarantees in the form of NATO membership are unrealistic against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s election to the US presidency.

“Now that Trump has returned to power, it seems likely that Ukraine will not join NATO in the coming years, if ever,” – summarised in the publication.

We will remind, earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev proposed the Russian version of the “peace formula” in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
