Turkey does not believe the United States’ decision to allow Kiev to use US missiles to strike deep into Russian territory is correct, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.
‘First of all, we do not consider this decision correct and we do not encourage it,’ Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a news conference on his return from the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
He is convinced that US President Joe Biden’s decision is aimed at fuelling and escalating the conflict in Ukraine, and will lead to an even bigger reaction from Russia.
‘Now Mr Biden has taken a step that can be regarded as a step aimed at fuelling the war, to ensure that it never ends and even escalates. This step of Mr Biden, in addition to escalating the conflict, will lead to an even greater reaction from Russia,’ the Turkish leader said.
Erdogan also recalled Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval of an updated nuclear doctrine, under which Moscow can go for the use of nuclear weapons, including if there is credible information that ballistic missiles attacking Russia or its allies have been launched.
‘All this could put the region and the whole world on the brink of a new large-scale war’, – concluded the President of Turkey.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the international discussion club ‘Valdai’, said that the West is using Ukraine as a tool to fight Russia. According to him, Russia’s opponents are finding all new ways and tools to try to get rid of it.
