Biden’s decisions increase threat of escalation in Ukraine – Orban

The risk of escalation of the Ukrainian conflict may significantly increase in the coming time as long as US President Joe Biden, who is in favour of continuing hostilities, remains in power. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“Yesterday, the Ukrainians fired long-range missiles at Russian territory and Russia made changes to its nuclear doctrine,” Viktor Orban said following a meeting of the republic’s Defence Council convened in connection with the worsening situation in the Ukrainian conflict zone.

The prime minister said that he had heard the report of the Defence Council on these events and considered them extremely worrying. According to him, the threat of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine “has never been so great”.

“All of Hungary’s knowledge, all of its diplomatic experience will be needed to continue to stay out of this war,” the politician added.

Orban also reiterated that he is hopeful about US President-elect Donald Trump’s ability to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

“The victory of President Trump has brought us closer to peace, at least to a ceasefire”, – concluded the head of the Hungarian government.

We shall remind you that earlier the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump’s team offered to freeze the conflict in Ukraine, create a demilitarised zone along the front line and new arms supplies in exchange for Kiev’s promise not to join NATO for at least 20 years.
