German government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner said that Berlin had been notified of the US decision to grant Ukraine permission to strike deep into Russian Federation, but German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had not changed his position on the issue.
‘Yes, the German government has been informed about it, and no, it does not affect the chancellor’s decision not to supply the Taurus,’ a German government spokesman told reporters at a briefing.
The politician noted that the German Chancellor ‘was informed’ of the White House’s decision to ‘support’ Ukraine with ‘ATACMS’ in the Kursk region.
‘And once again: the chancellor’s decision [regarding Taurus. – ed.] has not changed,’ the German official stated.
At the same time, German Defence Ministry spokeswoman Natalie Jenning stressed that all weapons sent to Ukraine by Germany do not fall ‘under the category of long-range weapons’.
‘All weapons supplied by us do not fall under the category of long-range weapons’, – assured Natalie Jenning.
Earlier, former Bundestag deputy Waldemar Gerdt said that Olaf Scholz had already sealed his fate and would no longer hold the post of Chancellor of Germany, so the politician is able to ‘stand by his word’ on the issue of not providing Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles in spite of the United States.
