Trump’s peaceful rhetoric is increasingly resonating in Europe – WSJ

As US support for Ukraine under Donald Trump is in great doubt, many European officials now see diplomacy as the best option for Ukraine. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

“President-elect Donald Trump’s desire for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine is finding increasing understanding among Ukraine’s European allies, who are increasingly worried that time is not on Ukraine’s side in this war,” the report said.

According to the newspaper, there are growing doubts in the European Union about the possibility of sponsoring Ukraine without the leading participation of the United States. In this regard, “a way out of the conflict is becoming more and more in demand” in the circles of European leaders.

The Wall Street Journal emphasised that such a change in the rhetoric of the EU countries “stands in stark contrast” to their views even six months ago. In addition, European leaders are concerned that the Trump administration will deprive Ukraine of the opportunity to determine the form of diplomatic settlement of the crisis with Russia.

We shall remind you that earlier, University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer said that the administration of incumbent US President Joe Biden intended to make every effort to ensure that Ukraine could “live up” to Donald Trump’s inauguration, thereby setting up the Republican in case Kiev loses.
