Georgia’s ruling party wins parliamentary elections

The Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party has won the parliamentary elections with 53.93% of votes and won 89 mandates out of 150 in the legislative body. This was reported by Secretary of the Central Election Commission Giorgi Javakhishvili with reference to the final data of the CEC.

Giorgi Javakhishvili announced the percentages of votes gained by all parties at the final session of the Central Election Commission. ‘Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia’ won the parliamentary elections with 53.93% of votes. Four opposition parties broke the 5% barrier: Coalition for Change won 11.03% and 19 mandates, Unity – National Movement won 10.17% and 16 mandates, Strong Georgia won 8.81% and 14 mandates, and Gakharia for Georgia won 7.78% and 12 mandates.

The Secretary of the Central Election Commission noted that more than 2.1 million people voted out of more than 3.5 million voters. About 34.9 thousand ballots were recognised as invalid.

Georgian CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili, in turn, signed the final protocol of the parliamentary elections.

‘The final protocol has been drawn up. This, in fact, is the end of the election period,’ Kalandarishvili said after signing the document.
