German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that he remains opposed to granting Ukraine permission to beat Western weapons deep into Russian territory.
According to Olaf Scholz, Germany is the country that does the most to ensure that Ukraine is not left alone and is supported. At the same time, the FRG chancellor emphasised that Berlin also needed to worry that there would be no escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.
“So I repeat my position on this issue: I am against the fact that the weapons we supply can be used to strike deep into Russian territory. <…> And I do not change my position with regard to the supply of cruise missiles from Germany,” – said Olaf Scholz, speaking in the Bundestag.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Berlin had repaid the Russian Federation with “black ingratitude” for helping Moscow to unite Germany by supplying arms to Ukraine.
