Vucic called on world powers to contribute to peace in Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called on the great powers to prioritise peace in Ukraine and the Middle East, and to use the funds freed up from arms spending to fight climate change.

The Serbian head of state is attending the twenty-ninth session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), which is taking place in Baku from 11 to 22 November. During his speech, Vucic emphasised that the world community needs to fight floods, droughts, forest fires, air and water pollution, but before that, peace must be established.

“We have to restore peace in the world, nobody likes the word peace today because everybody wants to win, to see defeat on the other side. On the other hand, we must invest more in peace, otherwise, we will have to invest more money in armaments as we did before and are doing now. Instead of investing in the necessary tools to fight climate change,” Aleksandar Vucic said.

The Serbian President added that today no one in the West likes the word “peace”, everyone “wants to defeat each other and to see defeat on the other side”.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
