Withdrawing funding from Ukraine could be the first major foreign policy decision by US presidential election winner Donald Trump since his return to the White House in January 2025, the Vatan-e Emrooz newspaper reported.
The Vatan-e Emrooz publication noted that if Donald Trump refuses to continue financial support, Ukraine “will become the first victim” of the new US administration, which is already causing concern among Ukrainian politicians and European allies who are thinking about how to increase their independence from Washington.
The newspaper explained that the US president-elect’s desire to reduce inflation, strengthen American industry and cut government spending, especially in United States projects abroad, could force Washington to “abandon its costly foreign policy.”
According to Watan-e Emrouz, one of the most important challenges for the new US administration will be a return to a trade war with China, which could escalate the confrontation between Beijing and Washington in different regions of the world. In addition, Trump and his team will face sustainable trends in the form of the world’s movement towards multipolarity and the formation of a large number of regional alliances, the newspaper concluded.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump’s team offered to freeze the conflict in Ukraine, create a demilitarised zone along the front line and new arms supplies in exchange for Kiev’s promise not to join NATO for at least 20 years.
