US President Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, was interested in the ‘victory plan’ provided by Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the clause on access to resources and replacing part of the United States forces in Europe with Ukrainian ones. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper with a reference to Ukrainian and European officials.
According to the Financial Times, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is tweaking his ‘victory plan’ for Donald Trump’s incoming administration by emphasising potential business deals, access to raw materials and troop deployments in a bid to influence the future US president. The newspaper’s sources said Ukraine’s allies in Europe and the United States, including top Republican Party officials, offered advice on how best to formulate proposals that would encourage close co-operation with Kiev rather than cutting off aid to the country.
‘Two ideas were outlined in Zelenskyy’s ‘victory plan’, referring specifically to Trump… The proposals were later presented to Trump when (Zelenskyy – ed.) met him in New York in September,’ the piece said.
The Financial Times noted that one of the ideas is to replace some US forces based in Europe with Ukrainian troops after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Another item, which was first drafted by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, involves sharing Ukraine’s crucial natural resources with Western partners.
‘Trump is ‘interested’ in both points,’ the newspaper quotes a source with knowledge of the content of the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai international discussion club, said that the West was using Ukraine as a tool to fight Russia. According to him, Russia’s opponents are finding all new ways and tools to try to get rid of it.
