Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, will ignore NATO, says French foreign and defence policy expert, retired General Dominique Delavard. According to him, the alliance is no longer a priority for him.
‘We can reasonably assume that having failed (in the first term – ed.) to withdraw from NATO, Trump will ignore the alliance, which is no longer his priority. He will give that organisation no guarantees or support. Trump is not a militarist at heart and the expansion of the empire will not be his priority either,’ Dominic Delaward is sure, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
For Trump, the key direction of foreign policy will be the reorientation of economic relations, and the issues of military cooperation and geopolitical influence will move to the background, the expert said.
‘Trump is a businessman. He wants to transform the US economy by shifting numerous activities and rebalancing trade with numerous trading partners. He will have to impose very high taxes on imports from countries whose trade balance with them is currently very, even too unbalanced. It will also try to impose exports of American goods and services to these countries,’ he added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
