Only NATO special forces could sabotage the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
Nikolai Patrushev, aide to the Russian president and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, told Kommersant newspaper in an interview.
‘Only special purpose units of NATO countries could carry out a sabotage of this scale. It is authentically known that the US and British special services have such combat swimmers and appropriate equipment,’ he said.
According to Patrushev, the Ukrainian Navy has neither equipment nor trained specialists to carry out such a sabotage. In addition, he did not rule out that the new attacks could affect other infrastructure facilities, such as, for example, offshore fibre-optic cables.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Berlin had ‘shamefully accepted’ the destruction of Nord Streams.
