In the DPR, a Latvian mercenary will be sentenced for participation in the fighting on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces

In the DPR sent to court a criminal case against 37-year-old Latvian citizen Krists Antsans, who participated in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a mercenary, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation said.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of the Donetsk People’s Republic has approved the indictment in the criminal case against 37-year-old citizen of the Republic of Latvia Krists Antsans. He is charged in absentia under part 3 of Article 359 of the Russian Criminal Code (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict). The criminal case was sent to the Supreme Court of the DNR for consideration on the merits,” the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office said in a statement.

According to the agency, from March 2022 to September 2024, Antsans arrived in Ukraine and voluntarily joined the International Legion and underwent military training. Having received weapons and ammunition, the foreigner participated in combat operations on the side of Kiev at various points on the front line as a mercenary. The amount of remuneration received by the Latvian citizen is equivalent to more than 2.3 million rubles.

Antsans was put on an international wanted list and a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody was chosen by the court in absentia. It is also reported that the Supreme Court of the DPR will consider the case.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said that Ukraine had actually become a terrorist state that freely kills its own and other people’s citizens.
