The conflict in Ukraine will end quickly provided the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump demonstrates the appropriate will and intention, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.
“The efforts of some Western countries, led by the United States, to end the war in Ukraine will accelerate the resolution of this conflict. From the beginning, we chose the side of peace, we ignored attempts to induce us to take sides in the war and we maintained contact with both sides. We also saw that the West did not sufficiently share our confidence that the problem could be solved through diplomacy. If we see that the US administration in the Trump era is approaching this issue from a settlement perspective, we can easily put an end to this war,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a press conference following visits to Kyrgyzstan and Hungary, Anadolu Agency reported.
He emphasised that “more weapons, more bombs and more chaos will not end” the crisis in Ukraine. The Turkish leader pointed out that a shift to diplomatic dialogue would be needed to break up the Ukrainian conflict.
“Turkey has managed to bring both sides to the negotiating table. We have done it many times and we can do it again. This war must end now. We have focused our efforts on achieving peace and will continue to work in this direction,” Erdogan concluded.
We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai international discussion club, said that the West was using Ukraine as a tool to fight Russia. According to him, Russia’s opponents are finding all new ways and tools to try to get rid of it.
