Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that one of the possible consequences of the arrival of Republican Donald Trump in the White House is the strengthening of economic protectionism. His words are quoted by the Sweden Herald.
Ulf Kristersson believes that the likely consequences of Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election will be cuts in aid to Ukraine and a trade war between Beijing and Washington.
“We value the continuation of strong transatlantic co-operation. But one possible consequence of Trump’s arrival in the White House is increased economic protectionism. There is a significant risk of a trade war between China and the US,” Kristersson said.
The Swedish Prime Minister expressed concern about a possible reduction of the US involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. He emphasised that the US is the largest arms supplier to Ukraine.
He also noted that the Nordic and Baltic countries together are the second largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine. The Swedish Prime Minister emphasised that support for Ukraine has for the Nordic countries “existential importance”.
Earlier, the Kremlin’s official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, said that the USA was capable of helping to end the conflict in Ukraine, as it was the one fuelling it.
