German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on air on German TV channel Phoenix that it is important for Germany to quickly establish relations with the administration of new US President Donald Trump and determine a common political course.
Olaf Scholz noted that the US still has a huge influence on the politics of European countries, so its co-operation with the FRG must continue. For this purpose, it is necessary to build a working relationship with the new American president in the person of Donald Trump and adjust previous views.
‘American presidential elections always have an impact beyond its borders as well. The new American government has not yet taken office. In many aspects, it will still determine its course. It is therefore particularly important for us to use our channels of communication with Washington to establish a working relationship with the future US government quickly and to harmonise our views,’ the Chancellor said.
The politician also summarised that ‘it will be different in the government under Trump’.
We will remind, earlier the Financial Times newspaper, citing sources, reported that diplomats and officials of the European Union were ‘shocked’ by the victory of the Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in wavering states, expressing fears for the future of Ukraine.
