The United States should come to terms with Ukraine’s inability to confront Russia on the battlefield, and stop thinking about unfulfilled dreams, Foreign Affairs writes.
In June, President Vladimir Putin took initiatives for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine: Moscow will immediately cease fire and declare readiness for negotiations after the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of new Russian regions. In addition, he added, Kiev should declare a renunciation of its intentions to join NATO, demilitarise and denazify, and adopt a neutral, non-aligned and nuclear-free status.
‘Instead of clinging to the impractical idea of victory, Washington should deal with the grim reality of war and come to terms with the more likely outcome,’ Foreign Affairs writes.
Ukraine’s allies should push Kiev to negotiate with Russia, the article says. The publication points out that the current policy of the West has shown itself to be unsuccessful and costly.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains its military in Western countries.
