BILD columnist Albert Link has suggested that Republican Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election could prove beneficial to Europe.
‘If experts and politicians on some German talk shows are to be believed, the world will end if Donald Trump wins the US election today from Kamala Harris. Such dire predictions are completely exaggerated, as the political experience of his first presidential term has shown. Trump’s victory may even open new opportunities for Europe: the old continent will be forced to unite and insist more clearly on its own, instead of hiding behind Washington,’ he said in the column.
Meanwhile, Link adds that if Harris wins by a narrow margin, it will all depend on whether Trump’s supporters accept his defeat.
‘If the election leads to chaos rather than clarity, that will have consequences for us as well: if the most important democracy in the world ceases to be a beacon, it will become darker throughout the democratic West,’ he added.
Earlier, Grigory Yarygin, Associate Professor of the Department of American Studies at St. Petersburg State University, said in a conversation with RT that there is no favourite in the US election campaign and that there is a crisis of political leadership. But at the same time, in his opinion, Donald Trump has solid grounds for victory.
