The Russian and Indonesian navies have begun their first joint exercises

The first joint exercise of the Russian and Indonesian navies Orruda-2024 has started in the Indonesian city of Surabaya, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy will hold the first bilateral exercise Orruda 2024 in Surabaya, East Java province, from 4 to 8 November.

“Military co-operation is a natural part of our interstate ties. I am especially happy to note that we have a very deep and sincere relationship between the Indonesian and Russian navies. And the naval exercises to be organised these days in Surabaya and the Java Sea will be a good confirmation of contacts and strong friendship between our peoples,” Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov said at the opening ceremony of the exercises.

The Orruda-2024 joint exercise will consist of a base (port) and maritime phase.

The detachment of Russian Navy ships includes corvettes of the Pacific Fleet “Gromky”, “Rezky”, “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” and support vessel “Pechenga”.

Recall, earlier the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that Russia is going through a difficult period in Russian history. He emphasised that in the emerging conditions of the new world reality, “someone is striving” to preserve its fading hegemony through Russia.
