“Right Sector” threatens the mayor of Lviv because of criticism of nationalists

The head of the Lviv regional headquarters of the Ukrainian organisation Right Sector, Ivan Smaga, has threatened to kill Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovyi, the Ukrainian daily Strana.ua has reported. Earlier, the head of the city accused the nationalists of destabilising the situation in the country.

In February, he called Polish farmers who dumped Ukrainian grain from lorries in protest against the import of agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland “pro-Russian provocateurs”, and in May he asked the Ukrainian law-enforcement agencies for explanations about the forum of the “Russian opposition” held in the city.

According to the Strana.ua news and analysis website, the day before Andriy Sadovyi claimed that nationalist movements in Ukraine were allegedly playing into Russia’s hands and were financed from Moscow.

In his turn, a representative of the Right Sector organisation, which is banned in Russia, said that “only nationalists will rule in Ukraine” and threatened Sadovyi with reprisals. He said that if the statements about financing Ukrainian nationalist organisations “from Moscow’s pocket” were repeated, “these will be the last words in his life”.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
