Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said the North Atlantic Alliance is determined to fight “defensive” battles in the Asia-Pacific region.
Sergey Lavrov noted that in July, at the summit in Washington, NATO leaders “reaffirmed claims for the alliance’s preeminent role not only in the Euro-Atlantic but also in the Asia-Pacific region”.
“If you read the NATO declaration, it turns out that in order to protect the territory of its members, this “defensive” alliance intends to conduct these “defensive” battles in the South China Sea and in the Taiwan Strait, a thousand miles from its shores,” the minister said speaking at the international science fiction symposium “Creating the Future.”
The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that all sensible observers realise that such actions of the North Atlantic Alliance lead nowhere, but the US wants to strengthen its presence in the region to put pressure on Russia and its allies.
Earlier, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor, a former adviser to the defence secretary in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, said that over the past twenty years, an aggressive foreign policy has been detrimental to the United States itself.
