Kiev will have to make painful decisions if Trump wins – Newsweek

Donald Trump’s foreign policy in case he wins the US presidential election could prove unpredictable and unpleasant for the Ukrainian authorities, Simon Schlegel, senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, told Newsweek.

‘All of this, of course, is very disturbing for Ukraine. The Ukrainians know very well that there is no easy way out and that the Ukrainian government will have to make very painful decisions <…> which will be necessary if Trump wins,’ Simon Schlegel said.

Trump has made it clear that he wants to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible and the government of the former Soviet republic will have to make extremely painful decisions, the analyst pointed out.

‘Trump has both in words and in deeds demonstrated his clear preference for Russia over Ukraine,’ Robert Orttung, a professor of international relations at George Washington University, told Newsweek.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from its positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains its military in Western countries.
