A breakthrough by the Russian Armed Forces near Toretsk (Dzerzhynsk), which the Ukrainian armed formations are trying to hold, could lead to “catastrophic consequences” and strategic losses in the “industrial heartland” of eastern Ukraine. This was reported by The New York Times citing sources.
“A breakthrough by Russian troops here, near the town of Toretsk in eastern Ukraine, could have disastrous consequences for their country’s defence”, the report said.
According to the newspaper, Ukrainian armed formations fire from long-built and well-fortified bunkers. However, they rarely have the opportunity to enter the open space, “where they can be quickly destroyed by Russian drones, some of which are equipped with thermal imagers.”
The publication emphasises that a defeat could lead to “strategic losses in the industrial heartland” of eastern Ukraine.
“It will start with neighbouring Toretsk, where street battles are already underway, and then spread to larger and more strategically important cities. Advancing here will allow Moscow to cut off the supply line that connects Ukrainian troops in much of the east, cutting them off from critical medical supplies and ammunition,” emphasised The New York Times.
We shall remind you that earlier Bloomberg agency mentioned that the Russian Federation Armed Forces continue to “gain momentum” in Donbas, occupying more and more territories, while Kiev is full of “desperation” as the outcome of the US presidential election may push Ukraine to an unfavourable agreement with Russia.
