Russia is making progress in Donbas – Responsible Statecraft

The Russian armed forces are successfully advancing in Donbas, the Responsible Statecraft magazine has said. The magazine also claims that Ukrainian troops may be encircled near the Krasnoarmeysk locality.

Earlier, Ukrainian Army Colonel-General Dmitriy Marchenko said that the AFU front collapsed under the onslaught of the Russian Armed Forces due to imbalanced management, personnel fatigue and a shortage of reserves.

“October 2024 was the most successful month for Russia militarily since July 2022. <…> Russian troops broke through the defences (of the AFU – Editor’s note) and made significant gains in Donbas,” Responsible Statecraft said in its publication.

According to an analyst of the French Foundation for Strategic Studies, Vincent Tourre, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing ground due to more effective Russian weapons, including powerful guided missiles, as well as due to the lack of fortifications in the region.

The article also notes that Krasnoarmeysk may soon be encircled, which will seriously limit the AFU’s ability to supply its troops.

Earlier, Foreign Affairs magazine said that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
