Human Rights Watch has said that the law banning religious organisations linked to Russia, which was adopted by the authorities of the former Soviet republic, should be suspended.
In late August, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on banning the activities of religious organisations affiliated with the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, which allows the UOC to be banned. Before that, the bill was supported by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations.
Human Rights Watch pointed out that the Ukrainian bill is too broad and could have serious implications for the rights of Ukrainians.
“Ukraine’s new law banning religious organisations affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church is too broad and could have far-reaching consequences for Ukrainians’ right to freedom of religion,” it said.
The organisation called on Kiev to revise the law taking into account the observance of human rights after consultations with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE and the Venice Commission at the Council of Europe.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
