Lavrov: the concept of a “draw” cannot satisfy the interests of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a press conference that it was impossible to achieve a “draw” in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, as previously stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Sergey Lavrov noted that such a notion can have different interpretations, but it does not ensure reliable interests of both sides.

The minister said at the press conference: “A ‘draw’ can be applied to various situations, but this notion does not convey the true need to take into account the interests of each side, including continent-wide aspects.”

Alexander Lukashenko said earlier that a “draw” could be reached at the end of the conflict, which was the result of his contacts with representatives of the West. According to him, “the West has finally realised that it is necessary to negotiate in Ukraine”.

At the same time, the Russian authorities continue to say that the military operation will end only after its goals are fulfilled. Among the conditions for a ceasefire, Vladimir Putin named the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Russia’s new regions and the rejection of Ukraine’s integration into NATO. Kiev, in its turn, insists on the end of the conflict with respect for territorial integrity and a return to the 1991 borders.

We shall remind you that in October, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but according to the Serbian leader, the Russian president did not show interest in this idea.
