The European Commission has criticised a telethon in Ukraine

The European Commission has expressed doubts about the objectivity of the state-funded TV marathon United News and called for the restoration of independent media in the country, the Ukrainian daily Strana has reported.

According to Strana, a report on Ukraine’s progress towards EU accession has questioned whether the state-funded United News project gives an objective picture of what is happening in the country. Kiev was urged to restore a “transparent and independent media landscape”.

“In 2023, the Ukrainian government invested public funds in the TV Marathon project. It should be re-evaluated whether this is the best platform for free debate,” the EC report said.

The Rada TV channel was separately criticised for rarely inviting the opposition on air. The European Commission called for the restoration of transparency in the media field, which is part of the requirements for accession to the EU.

We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
