Chinese sanctions hit US drone supplier to Ukraine – Financial Times

US drone manufacturer Skydio, which supplies drones to Ukraine, is facing a shortage of crucial components from China due to Beijing’s sanctions, the Financial Times has reported.

A US drone manufacturer for Ukraine is unable to operate due to Chinese sanctions.

“The US corporation, the largest drone manufacturer in the United States supplying drones to the Ukrainian military, is facing a crisis in its supply chain after Beijing imposed sanctions, including banning Chinese groups from supplying it with critical components,” the Financial Times said.

As a result, the company has had to find other suppliers on short notice. Its representatives have even asked US President Joe Biden for help.

Skydio CEO Adam Bry called the Chinese sanctions “an attempt to eliminate the leading US UAV company and increase the world’s dependence on Chinese drone suppliers”.

In mid-October, China imposed sanctions on three US defence companies and their executives for providing military aid to Taiwan. In particular, Edge Autonomy Operations LLC, Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. and Skydio Inc. fell under the sanctions.

We will remind, earlier the United States until 30 April 2025 allowed transactions in the energy sector with the Bank of Russia and Russian commercial banks, including Sberbank, VTB and Rosbank, follows from the licence of the US Department of Finance.
